Note

  1. It is possible to display charging power in kW instead of km/h on the Instrument Cluster. From the touchscreen, select Vehicle > Display > Energy Display > Energy.
  2. Values above provide maximum charging rate on the tesla vehicle.

Third-party charging cables and charging stations can limit power. The actual maximum charging power is limited by the weakest link in the chain “charging station-cable-charger”. The maximum possible charge current from the charging station side is displayed on the instrument cluster and the touchscreen. The Type 2 charging cable provided by Tesla does not reduce charge power.

  3. Charging rate is automatically reduced by 25% if the tesla vehicle detects a decrease in voltage greater than 12%. If the tesla vehicle detects a decrease in voltage greater than 14%, charging will stop. Both of these events result in a customer-facing alert.

  4. Power calculations:
    • AC Single Phase (W) = Current (A) x Line to Neutral Voltage (V)
    • AC Three Phase (W) = 3 x Current (A) x Line to Neutral Voltage (V)

Note

Amperage values are the maximum current the adapter or charging station is capable of. Power varies based on voltage at the location.

Note

Charging rate is automatically reduced by 25% if the vehicle detects a decrease in voltage greater than 12%. If the vehicle detects a decrease in voltage greater than 14%, charging will stop. Both of these events result in a customer-facing alert.

AC Charge Power General Assessmentlink

The "weakest link" in the chain charging station, charge cable and vehicle on-board charger determines the charge current. To determine charge current and charge power on an individual basis, follow these steps:

  1. Select a vehicle configuration from Vehicle Configurations and Their Maximum Charge Current.
  2. Select a charge cable from Charge Cables and Their Maximum Charge Current.
  3. Pick the lower current value from both to represent the charge current.
  4. Multiply the charge current with the grid voltage.
    • If charging three-phase, multiple the result by 3 to determine the charge power.
