Liftgate Switcheslink

1. Trim switch
1. Shutface switch

Opening/Closing

The liftgate can be closed from outside the vehicle by either pressing the Shutface Switch on the lower liftgate finisher trim panel or by pressing the trunk on the key fob 2 times. The liftgate can be closed from inside the vehicle by pressing the trunk button on the touchscreen.

  • Full open angle is 60.5 degrees
  • Under normal power operation, the liftgate should open or close at a velocity of approximately 12.5 degrees/second

Programmable Stop

The opened angle of the liftgate can be changed using the Shutface Switch on the lower liftgate finisher trim panel. To set up a lower (than full open) open position:

  1. Open the liftgate.
  2. Allow the liftgate to fully open or stop it near the desired position (using the Shutface Switch).
  3. Manually move the liftgate to the desired position.
  4. Press and hold the Shutface Switch on the lower liftgate finisher trim panel until a confirmation chime occurs, acknowledging the change has been saved.

Liftgate Behaviorslink

Learn Cycle/Calibration:

  • The rear body controller needs to calibrate the liftgate in order to learn the mechanical full open position.
  • A small angle below the full open position is recorded as the "Full Open Soft Stop"; this point becomes the opening target so the end stop is never reached.
  • Obstacle detection is active during calibration. Any obstacle will cause a back-off response and no calibration will be stored.

Audible Feedback:

  • One Short chime: An accepted liftgate start request on power close.
  • Two Short chimes: An anti-pinch sensor is pressed or an obstacle is detected during power close.
  • Three Short chimes: 12V battery voltage is low or out of range.
  • One Long chime: A new open position has been set.
  • Two Long chimes: A successful learn cycle was completed.
  • Fast Continuous chimes: The liftgate is in "Drift Control" mode.
Chime Time
Fast 250 ms
Short 500 ms
Long 1000 ms
Pauses between chimes 250 ms

Drift Control

  • Immediately following a power open operation or a back-off down movement, the liftgate position is monitored to detect if the liftgate drifts to the closed direction. If drift is detected, the liftgate will be brought to the closed position at a reduced speed.
  • If the liftgate is detected as moving in the closed direction for multiple consecutive user-initiated cycles, the liftgate system will set a diagnostic code and become disabled once the liftgate reaches the latch. The liftgate will act as a manual liftgate (non-powered) until the system is reset by clearing the code or by disconnecting and reconnecting power to the rear body controller.

Obstacle Detection When Opening

  • The liftgate will stop opening if the rear body controller detects an obstacle in the path of the liftgate during a power open such that the liftgate does not exert a force greater than 200 N with a spring rate of 10 N/mm as measured at the outer edge of the gate.
  • When an obstacle is detected while opening, the liftgate will reverse direction and move 50 mm towards the closed position as measured at the outer edge of the liftgate.

Obstacle Detection When Closing

  • The liftgate will stop closing if the rear body controller detects an obstacle in the path of liftgate during a power close such that the liftgate does not exert a force greater than 200 N with a spring rate of 10 N/mm as measured at the outer edge of the gate.
  • The liftgate will reopen to the full open position in response to an obstruction, then it will try to close again.
  • After 3 attempts, the liftgate will stop at the third open cycle in the open position and disable power operation until the operator latches the liftgate manually.
  • The liftgate will stop closing if a pinch strip sensor is pressed.
